Political World
With the Presidential Election past and Emmanuel Macron installed as the new leader of the French Republic, parliamentary elections were scheduled for June 11 and 18. I began taking photos of the
various campaign posters plastered on buildings throughout every town. France has more political parties and more women and minorities running for office. After I returned and followed the results of the parliamentary elections, women had gained 43% of seats in parliament. Compare that to 30% in US Congress.

While I was in France, Trump made his first European visit as president. He was caught on camera shoving aside a politician from Lichtenstein, and later the clip of President Macron manhandling Trump’s handshake was going viral. Lastly, we were
treated to a new Trumpism: “covfefe.” The image I kept from that time is a made-up one from the movie “Arrival” showing Rachel Adams’ character in an orange spacesuit holding up a whiteboard with “covfefe” written on it, hoping outer space aliens might understand what it means.
